Shade Cloth and the Relief It Brings to a Long Day in the Sun

Scaffolding in summer is a rough place to spend an afternoon. The metal gets hot, the glare bounces off every surface, and the work itself does not slow down because the sun is out. Mantis Shade Cloth is made for exactly that situation. It is a woven polyethylene sheet that blocks a controlled amount of sunlight while still letting air move through, so the space behind it stays noticeably cooler without going dark. Block-out ratings run from 30 percent to 90 percent, which means a site can pick how much relief it needs rather than settling for one fixed level.

The 30 percent scaffold mesh option is the one most crews reach for first. It keeps visibility and airflow high while taking the edge off the heat, and it drapes easily over scaffold frames without turning the site into a tunnel. Higher ratings like 70 or 90 percent are better for material storage or temporary shelters where the goal is serious protection from UV rather than airflow. The material is UV stabilized for ten years outdoors and runs from 80g to 300g in weight, so it holds up through a full season and beyond.

Where it earns its keep is in the daily grind of a site. Stretched over scaffolding, it shades workers on upper levels and makes a hot afternoon feel survivable. Thrown over a stack of timber or a pallet of fittings, it keeps the sun from degrading what is underneath. Rigged into a quick canopy, it turns a bare patch of ground into a place where a crew can eat lunch out of the glare. Standard rolls come in 1.83m and 3.66m widths for Australia and Europe, with imperial sizes for North America, and colours run from white and black to green, red, brown, yellow, blue and pink. Logos can be printed for companies that want their name on the mesh.

None of this is dramatic technology. It is a sheet of cloth that understands its job, which is to stand between a crew and the worst of the afternoon sun without blocking the light they need to work.
